How to Point your domain using an A record

Updated 2024-08-221 min read

Hosting documentation. Account access is coming soon. Always use the server details and nameservers assigned to your own account.

While using NAMESERVERS are the preferred method of pointing to your hosting account, not all means of DNS need to use them. Especially if you want to host the site here, the emails elsewhere, etc. In order to show your website here, you will need to direct your domain here somehow. To do that you will need the following records on your domain to work.

www IN CNAME 14400 domain.com

domain.com IN A 14400 xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx

To get that A record, you just need the IP from your cPanel located on the right under Server Information. Not all IP's are the same and cPanels can have a different IP.

Once you set those records, the domain will load here and all other services will be hosted elsewhere.

When would I point only an A record to Let.com?

This method is useful when the website is hosted at Let.com while DNS or other services, such as email, remain managed elsewhere.

Where do I find the destination IP address?

The guide uses the server information in the intended cPanel account. Different accounts may use different IPs, so the screenshot’s example should not be copied.

What does the example CNAME for www do?

It aliases the www hostname to the domain that has the A record, so both names can use the website destination described in the guide.
